Africa Statement on the Prosperity Gospel and Word of Faith Theology

African Christian leaders released the “Africa Statement on the Prosperity Gospel and Word of Faith Theology” (ASPG) in 2025, affirming God’s goodness while rejecting the prosperity gospel’s core tenets, stating that health and wealth aren’t guaranteed blessings for faith, that the cross secures forgiveness, not material wealth, and that faith isn’t a commodity to manipulate for riches, emphasizing instead that true purpose is glorifying God, not material gain.
